SYRCoSE (originally, Spring but now Spring/Summer Young Researchers' Colloquium on Software Engineering) was organized in 2007 by Prof. Alexander K. Petrenko (Institute for System Programming of RAS, Russia) and Prof. Andrey N. Terekhov (Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia), world-known scientists in the area of software engineering and computer science.

Nowadays, SYRCoSE is a recognizable young researchers’ forum on software engineering. By tradition, colloquium takes two days at the end of spring or at the beginning of summer (that is why the colloquium is called Spring/Summer), when the whether is usually sunny and, what is even more important, students and postgraduates are still in universities, not on summer vacation. During colloquium we try to create a friendly and well-wishing atmosphere that stimulates communication between participants and facilitates making new friends and scientific contacts.

The basic concepts of the colloquium was taken from SYRCoDIS (Spring Young Researchers' Colloquium on Database and Information Systems) organized in 2004 by Prof. Sergey D. Kuznetsov (Institute for System Programming of RAS, Russia) and Prof. Boris A. Novikov (Saint-Petersburg State University, Russia).
